  • Optional: Greek yogurt, honey

  • Blender or hand mashers

  • Measuring cups/spoons

  • Clear cups, spoons, straws

Objective & Connection to STEM

  • Science: Explore states of matter—solid ice, liquid blend—and basic chemistry (pH, natural sweeteners).

  • Math: Measure ingredient volumes, calculate ratios, conversions, and serving yields.

  • Technology & Engineering: Test different blend methods (hand-mash vs. machine) and analyze efficiency.

  • Health & Wellness: Learn about hydration, whole food ingredients, and limiting added sugars.

Lesson Flow (~45 minutes)

  • Intro (~5 min)

    • Show 30–60 sec clip from video (kids prepping and blending).

    • Ask: What ingredients did they use? Any steps that surprised you?

  • Hypothesis & Planning (~5 min)

    • Groups pick fruit + liquid combo.

    • Make slurry ratios (e.g., 2 cups frozen fruit + ½ cup juice).

    • Predict taste, texture, sweetness.

  • Build & Measure (~15 min)

    • Record measurements.

    • Blend or mash.

    • Observe: time to crush, texture, color changes.

  • Taste & Data (~10 min)

    • Plot how different ratios changed flavor and mouthfeel.

    • Rate hydration, sweetness, favorite color.

  • Reflect & Relate (~10 min)

    • Discuss:

      • How does fruit choice affect pH (acidity)?

      • Which method was most efficient (blend time)?

      • How does sugar compare to natural vs added?Science: Explore states of matter—solid ice, liquid blend—and basic chemistry (pH, natural sweeteners).

  • Math: Measure ingredient volumes, calculate ratios, conversions, and serving yields.
